Aaron Bergstrand
Konstfack - University Of Arts Crafts and Design
Through his painting, Aaron Bergstrand (b. 1996) explores questions of identity, place and belonging, drawing on his personal experience of growing up between two distinct cultural contexts. His practice engages with the structures of memory and the ways in which we relate to memory, distance and place. Working in thin layers of oil paint, Bergstrand constructs images of places and scenes that remain only partially accessible to the viewer. Existing in a space between presence and absence, the works evoke a subtle sense of distance and dislocation. The works in this exhibition are rooted in childhood memories and revisit places connected to Bergstrand’s upbringing in southern India.
