Embodied Memories explores Hangul, the Korean alphabet, as an embodied and relational language through modular wearable artefacts. Originating from experiences of non-verbal communication with the artist’s hearing-impaired aunt, the project approaches gesture and movement as fundamental forms of language. Drawing on Hangul’s geometric structure, linguistic principles are translated into a modular system that functions as words, sculptural forms, or wearable objects. The artefacts combine Korean textiles such as Mosi (ramie) and Oksa (silk) with transparent acrylic structures, magnetic connections, and traditional techniques including Gamchimgil hand-stitching and Pusae (rice starch stiffening). Meaning emerges through bodily movement, touch, and reconfiguration.
