'it must be everywhere' - transcending places

A project focused on using a local and meaningful material, wild clay. By decorating large thrown vessels or printed landscape tiles, I am capturing a place, and encounter, a moment in time. Through fire they become a tangible photograph. My aim with these works is to provide an opportunity to connect with a place and a material. As part of my material exploration I used both electric and gas kilns, as well as building a small wood kiln to fire some of the pots. The different atmospheres show new reactions and textures from the glazes. Nature does not decorate these works. It completes them as my collaborator. Alongside the physical forms I use video and sound, projected onto material telling hidden stories and methods. This allows a way to become more emersed in the place itself.
