Mobile Minerals & Margins (MMM) is a campaign focusing on the exploitative labour taking place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo which plays a vital role in mining cobalt, essential to make mobile device batteries. By reframing consumption as a conscious choice made every day, MMM favours self-reflection over guilt, recognising that awareness is a more effective catalyst for behavioural change. Not a utopian answer, but a considered response to reality. Taken from the back matter of the newspaper: “We are not going to stop. The next time the upgrade is imminent, it goes from an unconsidered impulse to a conscious choice – let us slow down our collective consumption.”
