Plastic porcelain

Fay Cardigan

Duncan of Jordanstone University of Dundee

Inspired by the ceramic objects collected and displayed in my family home, my practice centres on the imagery and symbolism of ceramics. For this series of paintings I have added an extra element of plasticine to develop my ceramic figurines into reimagined sculptures. I use this as a way to connect with my younger disruptive self who wished to play and interact with the ceramic figures. I then painted these objects using oil paint to focus on conveying sensitive shifts in texture and colour. I encourage viewers to construct their own narratives, allowing the meaning of each painting to remain open. My work often explores themes of femininity, fragility, and delicacy, inciting reflection on material value, memory, and anthropomorphism.
