UK bird populations continue to decline, while public awareness remains limited. This project transforms the vacant Category A-listed Springburn Winter Gardens in Glasgow into a multifunctional Bird Conservation Centre. It combines research, rescue, rehabilitation, monitoring and public education within an ecologically active urban park. The adaptive reuse strategy respects the historic structure while introducing community programmes that create long-term ecological and social value. Designed for both people and birds, the centre separates quiet habitats from public learning areas through layered circulation and clear boundaries, reducing disturbance while supporting safe, accessible and engaging urban coexistence for local communities and wildlife alike.
